It is unclear when Eddy Street became Pioneer Ave and Ferguson Street became Carey Avenue.
The saloon on the 1883 Sanborn map at 357 16th Street is the same address as 305 W Lincoln Way today (See 1886 map). Located two doors down from the Tivoli Saloon at the corner of Ferguson (Carey) and 16th. I'm not clear on whether August Huffsmith built the saloon and bowling alley or whether it was sold to him by a previous owner. August Huffsmith sells the saloon and bowling alley to Rudolph Wenger in November 1875. Rudolph Wenger and John Stender own the saloon and bowling alley by late 1875. Wenger takes over ownership when Stender dissolves his partnership in Aug 1878. Chris. Kapp takes ownership over R. Wenger on May 7, 1879 and subsequently sells the establishment to (Otto) Ahrens and (Chas.) Korengel by Oct 1879. Chas. Korengel sold his interest in the bowling alley to Otto Ahrens in June 1880. Otto Ahrens sold his saloon and bowling alley to Claus Henson in May 1881. In May 1882, there is a mention of Martin Hohnholz (Hohnholtz) opening the bowling alley but nothing thereafter. Between 1883 and 1886 the address system in Cheyenne was changed to reflect the current addressing of today. |
