Fort D. A. Russell was established in 1867 and declared an official army post in 1882.
Sgt. Ebert had charge and opened the bowling alley and gymnasium (from 8 to 4 daily) in Dec 1885 (?grand opening?). T. W. Ashford and an assistant ran the bowling alley and a barber shop in 1891. The only known case of where prisoners were kept in a Wyoming bowling alley was here at Fort Russell in April 1892. A wind storm on December 20, 1894 tore a little of the roof off of the bowling alley and also the commissary buildings. |
